In the Lutheran Church(and Catholic Church)three main rights of passage in a child's life are recognized: Baptism, First Holy Communion, & Confirmation. On March 13, 2011, Katelyn(6 1/2 years) made her First Holy Communion at Lutheran Church of Hope in Broomfield, CO. At our church the decision as to when children should make their 1st Holy Communion is left to the parents. Therefore, Katelyn & I attended a 3-hour class with Pastor Scott & (Youth)Pastor Beth in February in preparation for making her First Communion. Katelyn is a very intuitive child who asks thoughtful questions. It became clear to me during our class together that she understood well enough the significance of taking the Eucharist during Sunday service. Afterall, as Christians whether we're 6 or 96 we're constantly learing about our faith! As a parent, I am thrilled to get to share this uplifting & spiritual experience of Communion with Katelyn every Sunday.

In preparation for her big day, Katelyn made her own chalice & patent. When she made her 1st Communion, Pastor Scott placed the bread on HER patent and the wine in HER chalice. Very significant!
This pretty necklace with a little pearl in the center of the cross was a gift from Grandma Julie~
